Summer dinkn’ had me a blast! There wasn’t anything dill going on July 30th as 40 players showed up to test their patience and skill in the club’s dink challenge fundraiser sponsored by Vickie York…at the Beach Realty and Cheryl Martin, challenge director. Things soured a bit when it had to be moved to the rain date so a few players were unable to attend this fun filled day.
After a morning of women’s doubles and men’s doubles matches on courts sponsored by Pickleball Nan, Ocean View CHEER Center, Mind, Body & Sole Wellness Center,Drifting Grounds Coffee House, Senator Gerald Hocker, Millville by the SeaCommunity, Darlene Freas Photography, Al Casapullas, Jefferson, Urian, Doane & Sterner, CPA’s, and Law Offices of D. Stephen Parsons, P.A., players and spectators generously bought tickets for the Chinese Auction. Up for grabs were items such as 4 fresh lobsters from Fishkiller’s Lobster Shack, autographed Engage Pickleball Paddle,Big Fish gift card, Pure Pickleball paddle and balls, Darlene Freas Photography print, and many other generously donated items by members.
The afternoon ended with mixed doubles battling for dinking superiority. Many players commented on how this challenge helped them appreciate the use of the dink more and were also grateful for being “forced” into utilizing/practicing this shot.

Drum roll now… We were very excited to present the school where our 10 dedicated pickleball courts are located, JM Clayton Elementary School, with a check in the amount of $1,400.00 for their school programs. The Principal Alissa Booth and Assistant Principal Bennett Murray were surprised and elated to receive this donation especially in a year the school district has seen extreme cuts by the State.
A special thank you to volunteers Nan Colella, Joanne Brusich, Margie Courtney, Sara Thoroughgood, Frank Thoroughgood, Barbara Vogel, Donna Reid, Rose Hanlon, and Ocean View Church of Christ who helped with the auction and/or challenge. Thank you, community businesses and players, for your support and generosity. Pickleball Rocks and so do Pickleball Players!
